Lord willing, I’ll finish my semester long series on the Sermon on the Mount next Sunday. It’s been a joy to preach from these three familiar chapters. I’ve been alternately challenged and comforted as I’ve studied Matthew each week.

One of the great things (and difficulties) about preaching through the Sermon on the Mount is that there are so many resources available in : Kevin Deyoung. One valid example of parallels, in my opinion, can be found in the book of James, echoing the Sermon on the Mount.

The parallels potentially become more poignant when we remember that the author of the epistle is James the Just, the younger brother of Jesus (Matt. Thanks to the ESV Study Bible for first suggesting to me the following. The Sermon on the Mount is recorded in the Bible book of Matthew The focus of Jesus' teachings was how to live a life pleasing to God and the characteristics of Christian discipleship.

Here are the main summary points, Scriptures, and lessons from the Sermon on the Mount. The Two Sermons: The Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain. Luke's Gospel records a different beatitude teaching.

Please read Matthew and Luke and Compare the Matthew Beatitudes to Jesus' Beatitudes in Luke. There are three major theories that Bible scholars have developed to account for the differences. The Sermon on the Mount (anglicized from the Matthean Vulgate Latin section title: Sermo in monte) is a collection of sayings and teachings of Jesus Christ, which emphasizes his moral teaching found in the Gospel of Matthew (chapters 5, 6, and 7).

It is the first of the Five Discourses of Matthew and takes place relatively early in the Ministry of Jesus after he has been baptized by John the. The Sermon on the Mount - Bible Study Book includes a small-group experience for 9 sessions, individual study, applicable Scripture, a group discussion guide, and a leader’s guide to help group members learn what it means to be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven according to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.

Teaching videos are key to the understanding of this study. This book sets the standard for any serious student of The Sermon on the Mount and the name of the author alone is a greater recommendation than any review that I might write. If you are seriously committed to the study of this subject, there is not a more comprehensive exegesis available/5().

"The Sermon on the Mount" by David P. Scaer makes an excellent complement to a good commentary on the Gospel of Matthew such as R.C.H. Lenski's Interpretation of St. Matthew's Gospel. This is one of the finest books on the Sermon on the Mount ever written/5.

The Sermon on the Mount--now passing its 65th birthday--remains a vital and provocative introduction to the ideas at the heart of Christian heart it means to be entirely practical, as the "Science" of the name would indicate.

Denying any interest in theology (there is no theology in the Bible, Fox argues), the author instead suggests that what Jesus was after was results: "Jesus Reviews:   The Sermon on the Mount is recorded in chapters in the Book of delivered this message near the beginning of His ministry and it is the longest of Jesus' sermons recorded in the New : Sam O'neal.

The Sermon on the Mount occupies chapters 5, 6 and 7 of the Gospel of Sermon has been one of the most widely quoted elements of the Canonical Gospels. This is the first of the Five Discourses of Matthew, the other four being Matt Matthew 13 (1–53), Matthew 18 and the Olivet discourse in Matthew The Sermon is set early in the Ministry of Jesus, after he has been.

The Sermon on the Mount is a Text Book I first read back in It has become the basic text in the many Emmet Fox books I now Study and use for meditations.

The sermon on the Mount is a book that helps me gain spiritual perception, understand the nature of Divine Wisdome and the power of prayer/5.

Teaching videos are key to the understanding of this study.5/5(1). “The influence of the Sermon on the Mount is truly past reckoning. Any rational human being with a conscientious mind is bound to be influenced by its exuberant content regardless of religious background.” ― Abhijit Naskar, Neurons of Jesus: Mind of A Teacher, Spouse & Thinker.

Matthew's gospel opens with three chapters containing Jesus' longest recorded message – a sermon given to His disciples early in His Brand: Lifeway. Sermon on the Mount in the Bible: Matthew Jesus' "Sermon on the Mount" contains many of his most memorable and important teachings.

Using a variety of stories and examples, he undermines the idea that simply following the law is enough to make us righteous. God looks at our hearts, not just at our outward words and actions. Moses and Setting up the Sermon. While the entire first discourse (the Sermon on the Mount) could be looked at from the perspective of Jesus as the new Moses, I will focus mainly on the set up to the sermon.

Four things point to Matthew describing Jesus. St. Augustine ( AD), The Sermon on the Mount, Book I, chapter II, 6 He was born as wisdom from God for us, and as justice and sanctification and redemption. He is "the bread that comes down from heaven" and "living water," for which the great David himself thirsted.1.

Relevance to the Sermon. Davies (, ) notes the frequency of parallels between the thinking in James and that of Jesus in the synoptic gospels and observes: “the cumulative effect of the parallels is impressive” (Davies). These parallels are significant for any debate concerning the history of the Sermon on the Mount, for even a quick glance at the list given by.MATTHEW 5.

Chapter 1. 1. If any one will piously and soberly consider the sermon which our Lord Jesus Christ spoke on the mount, as we read it in the Gospel according to Matthew, I think that he will find in it, so far as regards the highest morals, a perfect standard of the Christian life: and this we do not rashly venture to promise, but gather it from the very words of the Lord Himself.
